Spiti: The land of the untamed
Unexplored routes, high altitude riding, extreme adventures, and what not – this Spiti tour is everything an adventure biker can dream of. Test your limits whilst enjoying the beauty of Spiti and hone your adventure skills. Go in a rider and come out a pro!
Chandigarh
Day 1 at Chandigarh starts with registrations and medical check-ups, followed by a lunch at the hotel and then a visit to the KTM dealership for a pre-event bike check-up. The experts will then brief the riders on the highway traffic safety, covid-19, and safety riding tips. The day ends with a scrumptious dinner at the hotel.
Chandigarh to Fagu | 150 km | 8,038 ft
We start the tour with a flag-off ceremony, and we ride to Malla, followed by a ride to Nainitiker on an off-road through coniferous forest, steep climbs that descend with a narrow hill road - your first dose of adventure! As we climb higher on an unexplored track, we get a mesmerising view of Chandigarh. We then proceed to Kanda Ghat, and grab lunch while enjoying the scenery at Sadhupul in a riverside restaurant. From there, we ride uphill on a ghat road to visit the historic Chail palace. The next stop is Kufri, where we stop for tea, and while sipping the hot tea, we also get our first view of the mighty Himalayas. We end day 2 either at Fagu, Theog or Narkanda with a bonfire.
Fagu to Sangla | 196 km | 8900 ft
A heavy adventure day for you as we ride to Narkanda from Fagu taking a detour on an unexplored route. The route is filled with breath-taking off-road experiences while also providing a sense of serenity as we ride through the beautiful dense forests of the Himalayas. On this day, we visit the Khadu café and Padam palace in Rampur, and ride along the stunning Satluj valley and through highly adventurous cliff-hanger roads. We also stop at the splendid Karcham dam for a photo op.
Sangla – Chitkul – Kalpa | 158 km | 11,320 ft
Day 4 starts with an adventure ride through the densely green Sangla valley to Chitkul, the last village on the India-China border. Then we have a delicious lunch on the delightfully green meadows of Rakchham. After lunch, we visit the legendary 900-year-old Kamru fort, followed by which we ride down the daringly challenging downhill through the cliff-hanger roads past Karcham dam. We then climb up to Kalpa, where we get our first view of Kinner Kailash. We end the day by relaxing at night around a bonfire with BBQ and music.
Kalpa to Tabo | 189 km | 12,500 ft
An early morning ride absorbing the sunrise to Rogi village, filled with thrilling ride through cliff-hanger roads, then we stop at a scenic viewpoint of the great Kinner Kailash mountain. We then proceed towards Nako, and on our way, we stop over at Khab Bridge – the confluence of Spiti and Satluj rivers. After a photo op, we start the undaunted climb on the cliff-hanger towards Nako at an altitude of 12,500 ft. During the day, we visit the Nako Lake and take a walk around the city of Nako and on our ride towards Tabo, we also visit the Moon land. We celebrate the cultural evening and end our day with a dinner at the Tabo helipad.
Tabo to Kaza | 50 km | 12,500 ft
Experience a short ride filled with fun activities to acclimatise ourselves for the coming days. We visit what is known as the Ajanta of Himalaya – the Tabo monastery. Then comes the best part of the day which is a high altitude riverbed riding academy at Lidang where you hone your riding skills with professional inputs from KTM Adventure experts. This will be followed by a tasty lunch by the river. We then take an 8 km off-road ride to visit the spectacular Dhankar monastery. We return to Kaza in the evening for dinner at the hotel.
Kaza| 15,400 ft
Day 7 brings about an adrenaline storm with it. An entire day of riding at an altitude above 14000 ft. is a challenging as well as a thrilling experience that an adventure motorcyclist can't miss. We also visit Hikkim, the world's highest post office, followed by a ride past Komic - the world's highest village connected by road. A never-attempted-before ride to Dhar Lung Wooh pass, and then we end the day with refuelling at the world’s highest petrol pump.
Kaza| 13,600 ft
We explore the west of Kaza. The first location that we go to is the world's highest polling booth – Tashigong. No other automobile organised group has ever been here, so be one of the first few to take on this adventure! The next stop is the Chicha bridge – the highest bridge in Asia, followed by a must-do ritual of having Maggi and tea on the hillside. In the evening, we get into the spiritual space by visiting the Key monastery and being a part of the evening prayers. After the prayers, we go around the locality, shopping and observing the culture.
Kaza – Kunzum La - Chandra Taal | 100 km | 14,930 ft
A day filled with extreme adventures as we ride towards Chandra Taal – a freshwater lake. Then comes the most thrilling part of the ride, the Kunzum La pass, popularly known as the most notorious pass of the Spiti belt. The ride through the Kunzum La pass is not for the faint-hearted people. It takes great adventure riding skills. The off-roads at a high altitude are challenging, and as we reach the top, we visit the Kunzum Devi temple. We then ride next to Chandra Taal and end our day by camping with dinner and a bonfire.
Chandra Tal – Atal Tunnel – Manali | 111 km | 14,100ft
We ride along the most breathtaking, toughest and less explored route past sandy deserts, rocky paths and numerous streams to Tso Moriri. In the evening, we will visit Karzok monastery and walk along the shores of Tso Moriri Lake. Overnight stay in a fixed tented camp at Tso Moriri.
Manali – Chandigarh | 300 km | 7,000 ft
We start our ride back to Chandigarh from Manali on the final day travelling alongside a river. We reach Chandigarh and celebrate the completion of our tour with a gala night at the hotel.

Bike Preparation
We strongly recommend you service your motorcycle at the nearest KTM service center. Ride the bike for a short weekend trip before the tour onset. Ensure that the following is being addressed at the service center with the help of the technician.
  • Inspect your suspension before the trip
  • Check the rear swing-arm bush for wear and tear and replace if necessary
  • Check your chain and rear sprocket for wear.
  • Your bike’s clutch is really crucial for this trip. So make sure that your clutch is in order and adjusted properly without trace of any drag, slip etc.
  • Check your battery and earthing connections. The demanding terrain and the riding conditions that you and the machine are likely to encounter on the route could further accentuate existing problems.
